Predictive analytics and digital twins to improve railway safety: What tools? What usages? What business model?

As we await the Hyperloop, the train remains an eminently mechanical machine that, like all mechanical machines, is subject to great physical stress and damage. When we combine knowledge of dynamics, the ability to retrace and analyze large amounts of data and mathematics, this machinery can be maintained in good working order for longer periods of time. However, proper operating conditions must be ensured and promoted by skilled professionals.

Modeling, simulation and control of soft robots

Future robots don't have to be «rigid» but made of complex deformable structures, composed of stiff and soft regions, close to organic materials that we can find in the nature. Soft robotics opens very attractive perspectives in terms of new applications, reduction of manufacturing costs, robustness, efficiency and security. It could result in great advances in robotics in the next years. The main obstacle to make this possible is that the current methods to design and control don't work for deformable robots and new approaches have to be invented. To overcome this obstacle, we work on a novel approach that integrates a real-time model of both the robot deformations and its interaction into the control loop of the soft robots.

Industrialisation of IoT: sharing best practices

Internet of Things (IoT) is changing the way that big companies do their historical business, with multiple opportunities as: A better responsiveness capability in case of incident thanks to live data. / An enhanced anticipation of potential malfunctions relying on predictive maintenance algorithms. / A congregated effort dedicated to network supervision, accommodating scheduled maintenance operations, sensors deployment and data science. As other major companies, SNCF Réseau is facing many issues to scale and industrialize IoT deployment over his assets. To cope with this challenges, many initiatives were launched internally to ease this deployment. However, many brakes still remain. Therefore, we are pleased to convince you to a workshop aiming at discussing on the key opportunities and methods which allow our companies to massively deploy IoT and bring predictive maintenance to reality, including: Operational maintenance / Cost optimization / Solution industrialization / Standardization and homologation

IoT and Cybersecurity: meeting the challenges of ?by design? and certification

Attacks and vulnerabilities discovered in recent years have sparked players in the IoT arena to offer good practices and standards in the area of cybersecurity. There are now so many different guidelines that it is hard to make heads or tails of them all. Today, the time has come for harmonization of these rules, and in order to ensure they are enforced, product certification appears to be a vital tool. While imposing them through regulations will aim to speed up enhancements to product safety, the right compromise must be found so that the entire industry is not impacted. What are the priorities? What good practices must be implemented today? Is certification the answer to all problems?
